Aniela – First Romanian Period Drama
Promance International, a MediaPro Pictures company, presents its most ambitious project of the recent years: Aniela, the first Romanian period drama. Placed in Bucharest, at the beginning of the 20th century, the series tells the story of young Aniela Elefterios whose life changes dramatically after her father’s suicide over gambling debts.
Filming started in July at MediaPro Studios in Buftea, the leading roles being cast to Adela Popescu and Mihai Petre who head the list of impressive names of Romanian theater and stage actors starring in the project.
The production departments – producers, screenwriter, production designer and costume designers – researched the subject of La Belle Époque for more than a year by visiting museums, antique shops and historical locations. The production team has also read books regarding the period, most of them printed at the beginning of the century. In addition to all this, a prestigious Romanian historian held a two-day seminar at the filming location in Buftea to help the team and the actors better understand the spirit of that age.
The department of production design built over 96 sets and stages that fully reproduce the eclectic style at the beginning of the century which brings together elements of Romantic, Neo-Clasic and Brancovenesc architecture. The production also boasts the construction of a street that brings to life a dressmaker’s shop, a grocery, a newspaper office and a “family” restaurant as well as elegant facades of that time.
Costumes and accessories (hats, gloves, parasols, etc) have been created at the Studios as well, and considered a cast of more than 100 characters of different social status. Many of the objects and articles of clothing are original, being acquired in Paris, the quintessence of the La Belle Époque age.
The first Romanian period drama will be broadcast on prime-time on AcasaTV this fall.
