Aniela, the first Romanian costume
drama, tells the story of young Aniela Elefterios who thought she
had it all: a promising future and a fiancé of noble descent. But
her father's unexpected death will change her life forever and will
put her against a society where conventions are all that
matters.
Maruca Elefterios, Aniela's mother, in a final attempt to save her
daughter, sells the few properties left to a wealthy upstart
Dumitru "Mitica" Laptaru whose only desire is to climb the social
ladder. But behind appearances, infidelities and secrets mark their
lives.
Radu Vulturesco, the eldest son of the Vulturesco couple, believes
in love and dares to stand up to the conventions of the time. He
falls in love with Aniela Elefterios, with her candour and
innocence, and lives unaffected of the strict regulations of the
period. But even if his love will overpass the unwritten laws of
the society, they will have to face terrible obstacles.
Under the mask of appearances, hides Aretia Belciugesco, a fine
lady. Madame Belciugesco founded the Institute for Supporting Young
Women and poses as a great philanthropist. But Nutzi, Tantzi, Yvone
and Natalie are far from being happy in the Institute.
Niculina, the ironing lady in Aretia's house and her father,
Costica, came all the way from Husi to escape poverty, but the only
place they have managed to find is at Belcigesco's Mansion.
Costica's desire is for his daughter to marry a hard-working and
devoted man, as is the green grocer Panait. But Niculina's Heart
will be forever given to Stere Antoniade, who will jeopardize his
future and career for the woman he loves.
Will love be stronger than the secrets of the past?
